Two indicted for capital murder after death of 10-month-old

Recently, there have been significant updates in a tragic case involving the death of a 10-month-old child in Brownwood. A child abuse investigation led to the arrest of 22-year-old Steven Wayne Peacock Jr. for causing serious harm to the child. The victim was transferred to Cook Children’s Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, despite all efforts, the child passed away from her injuries on January 6, 2025.

Since then, law enforcement officials have been actively investigating the case, resulting in indictments from the Brown County Grand Jury. Peacock faces serious charges including Aggravated Assault and Capital Murder, with bond denied. Additionally, the child’s mother, 24-year-old Angel Mari Bernal, has been indicted on charges of Injury to a Child and Abandoning or Endangering a Child. Her bond has been set at $175,000.
