Taylor Sheridan’s Debut Box Office Hit Climbs Netflix Top 10 Without Western Genre
Every week, Netflix releases its Top 10 lists for the most-watched movies and TV shows, and one unexpected film made the cut from March 3-9. “Sicario,” a crime drama from 2015, starring Emily Blunt as an FBI agent on the hunt for a Mexican drug cartel, has been gaining popularity on the streaming platform.
What sets “Sicario” apart is its exceptional talent behind the camera and onscreen. Written by Taylor Sheridan, known for creating the hit show “Yellowstone,” and directed by Denis Villeneuve, the film boasts a star-studded cast including Benicio del Toro, Josh Brolin, Daniel Kaluuya, and Jon Bernthal.
Despite being a decade old, “Sicario” received three Oscar nominations for Cinematography, Original Score, and Sound Editing. It marked Sheridan’s screenwriting debut and helped put him on the map as a writer, earning him a Writer’s Guild of America award for Best Original Screenplay.
Since its release on Netflix on March 1, “Sicario” has climbed up the ranks to No. 5 on the list of most popular English-language movies. The film’s resurgence in popularity can be attributed to Sheridan’s subsequent success in Hollywood and the film’s quality storytelling and performances.
For those who have already seen “Sicario,” its sequel, “Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” also penned by Sheridan, is available to stream on Paramount Plus. So, if you’re in the mood for a gripping crime thriller with top-notch talent, look no further than “Sicario.”
