“I was always just more interested in doing… fun things — whether it was braiding hair, whether it was teaching kids on the side,” Meghan tells Kaling. “I loved working at Humphrey Yogarts, I loved working at The Fractured Prune because it also allowed me to be this 15-year-old girl who was trying to make ends meet but doing fun things. And I think that shaped me so much.”

“Growing up, my grandmother and my mom, every time my birthday came around, would make me my favorite concoction,” Meghan recalls. “In the Philippines, they make a Filipino sticky coconut rice. It’s sweet, and it’s delicious, it’s very sugary. But it’s so warming.”
“I’m encouraged I can be making them for my kids,” she adds, wiping away a tear. “I find that to be the most warming, and I always say, ‘Oh, so loved.’ This is what we do. This is Buckingham Palace.”
