Disney+ adds ESPN in Australia: Streaming Wars Heat Up

Streaming giant Disney+ has some exciting news for sports fans in Australia and New Zealand! They’ll be adding ESPN sports programming to their library, at no extra cost. This move follows similar rollouts in Latin America last June and the US in December.

A whopping 10,000 hours of sports programming will be available on new ESPN and ESPN2 channels. Fans can look forward to shows like SportsCenter, The Pat McAfee Show, NBA Today, and First Take, as well as live NBA and NFL matches, replays, and original content.

Kylie Watson-Wheeler, the senior vice president and managing director of Walt Disney Company Australia and New Zealand, as well as the head of ESPN Asia-Pacific, shared, “Disney+ will provide access to the biggest ESPN offering ever delivered in our market, including live games and on-demand replays.”

This addition will expand the Disney+ offering and provide sports fans with even more content to enjoy. The exact launch date has not been specified, but it is expected to happen in the coming months. The new ESPN content will be included in standard and premium subscriptions, though not profiles in “Junior Mode.”

This announcement comes at a time when streaming services are constantly evolving and competing for viewers. In related news, News Corp recently sold Foxtel, including streaming services Binge and Kayo, to global network DAZN for $3.4 billion. Additionally, Disney+ competes with other streaming services like Stan, owned by Nine, the publisher of this website.

Exciting times ahead for sports fans as Disney+ expands its offering to include ESPN content in Australia and New Zealand!
