Q&A with Michael Urie: Shrinking Role and Critics Choice Nomination
uring the live show, they can’t be fixed in post, and they can’t be contained. That pressure is pure joy, and terror, certainly, but when you don’t have a safety net, you must be your most honest self. And that’s what brings me back to the stage time and time again.
What’s next for Michael Urie? A Critics Choice nomination is a great honor, but you’re already working on your next projects. What do you hope to tackle next?
I’m taking some time off now that Once Upon a Mattress is done in LA. I’ve been going non-stop for the last year and need a break, some time to read some scripts, and possibly some travel. There’s a pilot I may do in the spring if all goes as planned, but otherwise, I see that there will be more time back on the stage. Maybe my next project will be to use some of this momentum to bring my own stories to life, but only time will tell. My version of a dream role may not have even been written yet—but I’m excited to find out what it is.
So, the next time you’re scrolling through your streaming options on Apple TV+, keep an eye out for Michael Urie in Shrinking—his performance, along with his down-to-earth Texas charm, is truly something special.
